The San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship has hired the Rev. Aaron White as its minister.
Rev. White’s first official sermon was Sunday, Oct. 5 at UCM-Wesley.
Rev. White received his undergraduate degree in religion from Austin College in Sherman.
He studied religion at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and went on to Harvard Divinity School where he graduated in June of 2007.
Rev. White was introduced to Unitarian Universalism while at Austin College. He visited the UU church there and has spent very few Sundays away from a UU church since that day.
“I was immediately drawn to this historic faith, which calls its members to walk together in curiosity, service and authenticity,” White said. “ I was stunned to find a religious home where my questioning mind was expected to exist as part of my spiritual life, and where the insights of religious humanism were matched with poetry and metaphor in religion.”
After graduating from seminary in June of 2007, White moved back to his home state of Texas and married his college sweetheart, Kate. He began a year-long ministerial internship at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church in north Austin. He was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist Ministry at Live Oak UU Church in May of 2008.
After completing a term as summer minister for the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, Rev. White has also been hired by the Southwest UU Conference for a one-year term as the young adult minister for the district.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to serve this vibrant religious congregation, which is committed to inclusion of all people and service to our community in San Marcos,” He said. “We welcome you to join us on any Sunday as we work to build lives of deeper love and justice together.” For more information, visit the church Web site at www.smuuf.org or call the church phone number at 396-2986.
