Fiddle sounds fill the air at String Band Festival

Driftwood The sounds of fiddles, banjos, mandolins and guitars will fill the air at the Austin String Band Festival the weekend of Oct. 17 at Camp Ben McCullouch near Driftwood.

Bluegrass, Cajun, Old Time Country and Traditional Roots music will be featured as dozens of regional performers present workshops, concerts and informal jam sessions.

“This is a friendly festival by and for musicians and music lovers, in a beautiful setting on the banks of Onion Creek,” festival organizer Angie Wooten said.

The Austin Friends of Traditional Music (AFTM) sponsor this 3rd annual festival. AFTM has fostered all types of traditional music and dance events in Central Texas since its founding in 1974.

“The love of playing folk and traditional music brings people together of all ages, backgrounds and origins” AFTM member Bernard Mollberg aid.

Saturday workshops include mandolin, banjo, fiddle and singing in a wide range of styles. Several are oriented for beginning players. Camping is available. A Sunday morning gospel sing wraps up the festival.

For complete information on all festival events, visit www.aftm.us.
