TXST students help School Fuel feed kids

School Fuel was pleased to have the help of university organization H.E.A.T. (Human Environmental Animal Team) this week to provide almost 300 sacked meals for kids over the Easter weekend.
“School Fuel is just very thankful for all the organizations who send money and help, but for a student organization to go above and beyond and do more than just sack, I was just impressed,” said volunteer and School Fuel Board member Aurelia Newton.
“We got to sack for two schools, 187 (sacks) for one school and 118 for the other,” she said. “We sacked 296 sacks for Mendez and De Zavala elementary schools.”
“It didn’t take that long and we just packed all the lunch bags,” said H.E.A.T. member Ivy Martinez, who initiated HEAT’s involvement with School Fuel. “It was around 15 to 20 of us, but our member base is around 250 people.”
