San Marcos —
Displaying a combination of traditional country, comedy and good ol’ fashioned fun, The Plummer Family Music Show returns to Prairie Lea School at 7 p.m. Feb. 15.
The annual show is a fundraiser for the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, which covers Fentress, Prairie Lea and Stairtown. The Plummer Family was one of the first acts to come out of Branson, Mo. in May of 1973.
“They’re just an old group out of Branson. Family oriented and they put on a good show,” Mark Talley, Tri-Community volunteer fire fighter, sad. “I’ve seen them a number of times.”
The Plummer Show is a definite family affair: lead man Darrell is joined by wife Rosie, grandson Josh and daughter Melody Driskill. New additions include pedal steel guitarist Dave Mitchell and drummer Marvin Skiles.
As the master of ceremonies, Darrell is known for the country and gospel songs and the duets he does with his wife Rosie. Comic relief in the form of zany songs and comical stories is provided by “Nearly Famous,” or Tony Hampton.
Singer Lynn Rose-Terry can yodel, sing a country, pop or gospel tune.
The Plummer Family performed for 18 years until retiring. In 1984 Rosie was presented the first “Show Biz Award” at the Ozark Music Awards, and both she and Darrell have been inducted into the Ozark Hall of Fame.
Barbecue plates will be available for sale before the show. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for 12 and under. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, the Luling Discount Pharmacy and from Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department members.
