Grown men take on ‘Gone with the Wind’
They say that if you liked “Gone With the Wind,” you’ll adore this play.
The Gaslight-Baker Theatre of Lockhart opens “Moonlight and Magnolias” tonight as its first show of the 2010 season. The play follows the writing of the final “Gone With the Wind” Screen play — to be done in five days — by screen writer Ben Hecht (Randy Wachtel). The only problem is he’s never read the book.
The director, Victor Fleming (Steve Lawson), and producer David O. Selznick (David Schneider), have to act out the book to inspire the writer’s dialogue.
The outcome is grown men taking on multiple roles as Ashley Wilkes, Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara.
The play runs Fridays and Saturdays tonight through Feb. 13 at 8 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 and 14. Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for seniors and students.
The Gaslight Baker Theatre is located at 216 S. Main in Lockhart, one block from the town square. For more information call (512) 376-5653 or visit www.GaslightBakerTheatre.org.
