Grammy-winning Chanticleer to visit TLU

From staff reports

San Marcos — Texas Lutheran University is bringing the Grammy Award winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer to Jackson Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. Tickets will be available for the concert beginning Monday, Oct. 6.

Based in San Francisco, Chanticleer has developed a reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to bold new music. With its blend of 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as “an orchestra of voices.”

Chanticleer has close ties to San Antonio as its founder, Louis Botto, grew up in the Alamo City. He founded the group in San Francisco in 1978. Chanticleer is presently the only independent full-time classical vocal ensemble in the United States.

Dr. Douglas Boyer, director of the TLU School of Music said, “Chanticleer’s performances sparkle with a purity of sound and a beauty unlike any you’ve ever heard.”
