San Marcos — The old time music variety shows are hard to come by any more. But don’t tell that to the Plummer Family.

Darrell Plummer and his family still stop through one-traffic-light towns like Duncan, Ok., Danberry, Tx and Maquoketa, IA., entertaining crowds with their family-friendly country music and their comedy.

The Plummer Family Country Music Show returns to Prairie Lea at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Prairie Lea School Auditorium. The show is sponsored by the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department.

“We have more fun in the smaller communities,” Darrell, the master of ceremonies for the show, said. “We like the country people, that’s what we are all the way.”

As the master of ceremonies, Darrell is known for the country and gospel songs and the duets he does with his wife Rosie. Son Randy is the bass guitarist and lead vocalist, while comic relief is provided by “Nearly Famous,” or Tony Hampton.

The Plummer Family returned to the stage several years ago after a brief retirement period. The family opened their own theater in May of 1973 in Branson, and stayed there for 18 years. In a city at one time filled with variety shows like their’s, the Plummers was the third to open.
