San Marcos — Local businesses and nonprofit organizations can still register a booth for the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce’s first ever Green Living Showcase, set for March 20 at the city of San Marcos Conference Center at Embassy Suites.
The expo will bring together hundreds of homeowners and business people for workshops, exhibits and demonstrations on “green” building, energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling and more.
“People today are really concerned bout the environment, about taking care of our natural resources,” San Marcos Chamber of Commerce President Phyllis Snodgrass said. “This showcase will offer practical solutions for businesses and families.”
Snodgrass, who hopes this event will further distinguish San Marcos as a “green Friendly” locale, estimates at least 50 booths and more than 1,000 visitors for the first event.
Some of the exhibitors who have already registered include San Marcos Toyota, LCRA, Innovative Water Solutions, Heritage Tree Care, Josiesque Designs, Green Guy Recycling, Integrity Blinds and McCoy’s. Booths are available at $250 for non profits and $350 for for-profit companies.
Workshop presenters already confirmed include: “Green Living with the Green Guru”, aka. “Mr. Smarty Plants”, Eric Beckers with the Texas Forest Service on Oak Wilt Prevention and Treatment, Maia Corbitt, STAR- State of Texas Alliance for Recycling on Recycling Options, Diana Gonzales from PEC with “Going Green on a Budget” and “Savings Without Sacrifice," Dahia Anzalduc with Austin Community College on “Green Careers” and Rick Burleson, Burleson Design group on “Green Building, Remodeling and Weatherization.”
“This event demonstrates San Marcos’ commitment to quality of life enhancements that will attract new residents and businesses looking at the IH-35 corridor,” Clay DeStefano, chair of the Chamber of Commerce’s Natural Resources Committee, said.
