San Marcos —
Dozens of Central Texas singers will soon unite and raise their voices to pay tribute to America's military and the heroes and victims of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
The Heart of Texas Chorus and the Texas State University Friends of Fine Arts and Communication will present the 8th Annual “United We Sing” concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept.12 at the San Marcos High School, 2601 E. McCarty Lane. Admission is free.
A tradition of the two-hour concert is the Community Chorus. All singers, male and female, are invited to join the group in rehearsal on Thursday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 9, from 7:30 to approximately 8:15 p.m. in room 222 of the Music Building, at the corner of Sessom and North LBJ on the campus of Texas State University. Church choir members, high school or college singers, garage bands, soloists, great shower singers: All are asked to come join the Community Chorus and the musical salute to the U.S.A.
The concert will feature the award-winning Heart of Texas Chorus, Southwestern Champion quartet, Sterling, San Marcos' Marcsmen Chorus, Texas State Collegiate Quartet Champions Varsity, Texas State's Dean Richard Cheatham reprising his moving “I Am America” dramatic reading, and other performers.
While admission is free, organizers will accept donations to help offset concert production expenses and attendees can make voluntary contributions at the concert. For directions to San Marcos High School and for additional information about the Heart of Texas Chorus, go to www.hotchorus.org.
