New Braunfels — November is National Adoption Month, and you won’t have to go far to see what that means for children and families here in Central Texas.
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, 13 children from the area will leave their status of being in state conservatorship and become part of their forever families.
The adoption ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the McKenna Events Center, 801 W. San Antonio Street in New Braunfels, sponsored by CASA of Central Texas in conjunction with Child Protective Services.
The ceremony, the agencies say, will close the chapter on abuse and neglect that these children have endured, and open a new one in a safe, nurturing, permanent home.
The new families are benefiting from donations ranging from Teddy bears to books to jewelry, and attorneys involved in the adoptions donated their services to help defray costs.
CASA of Central Texas, Inc. advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays Counties.
In 2008, CASA of Central Texas served 246 children in four counties but there were an estimated 430 or more additional children who did not have the voice of a CASA.
