Twelve young people will become charter members of the Burleson-Milam Chapter of the Children of the Republic of Texas at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Charles S. Cock House Museum on Hopkins Street.
This new chapter is sponsored by the Moon-McGehee Chapter of The Daughters of The Republic of Texas in San Marcos. Membership in the Children of the Republic of Texas is open to young people under the age of 21 who can prove their lineal descent from a man or a woman who served the Republic of Texas prior to the consummation of the Annexation Agreement of the Republic of Texas with the United States on Feb. 19, 1846.
The objectives of the CRT chapters are to encourage the study of Texas history; to help preserve the places made sacred by the men and women who achieved Texas independence; to stimulate historical research into the earliest records of Texas; to foster the preservation of documents and relics; to promote the celebration of all Texas Honor Days; to revere the Flag of Texas and to promote the display of that flag; and to cherish and preserve Texas, one and indivisible, as achieved by the Fathers and Mothers of the Texas Revolution.
