Sounds of the Season: Kris Kimura Quartet to perform Sights & Sounds Gala
The sights? An elegant Black and White Ball with a seated dinner. The sounds? A night full of great American standards.
The Kris Kimura Quartet will be the featured group when the annual Sights & Sounds Gala kicks off at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the San Marcos Conference Center. The Austin-based jazz band will mix mid 20th Century classics with several holiday tunes.
“Everything from Cole Porter to Gershwin to Rogers and Hart, we basically do the great American songbook,” Kimura, the singer and saxophone player, said.
The band does corporate parties and weddings on a regular basis, and has been performing throughout Texas since the mid 90s.
Proceeds from the annual gala benefit the Sights & Sounds event, which begins along the river the following evening. A seated dinner featuring holiday cuisine will be followed by music.
“The Sights & Sounds Gala offers our community a chance to enjoy a nice holiday event with family and friends,” said Heather Powdrill, program event coordinator for the city of San Marcos. “At the same time, the gala will raise funds for Sights & Sounds, which is truly a San Marcos tradition that we want to help continue for many years to come.”
Tickets to the gala are $45 each and table sponsorships for eight guests are available for $450 or for 10 guests at $550. Tickets are by reservation only and are not available at the door.
Contact Powdrill at 393-8420 to request an invitation, for reservations or more information.
The Sights & Sounds of Christmas is a three-day festival beginning on Dec. 3 on the banks of the San Marcos River. The 23nd annual festival features thousands of holiday lights, food, rides and crafts for children, angel choirs, historic Bethlehem animals and visits and photos with Santa Claus. More information on the Sights & Sounds of Christmas festival is available at www.sights-n-sounds.org.
