Gruene Orchid Society elects new officers
The Gruene Orchid Society of New Braunfels elected new officers at its annual Christmas party meeting and dinner held recently at the Gulf States Long Term Acute Care Hospital.
Outgoing President Glendon Eppler administered the “Oath of Office” to officers for 2010. Officers include the following individuals: President, Beverly Garcia; Vice-President, Melinda Poss; Secretary, Sheila Kies; and Treasurer, Horst Theile. Auxiliary Officers include: Historian, Trey Burton; Hospitality, Flo Brogdon; Show Chair, Mary Cash; Raffle Plant Chair, Laura Burton; and American Orchid Society Representative, Laurie White.
As a table gift, each Society member received a potted orchid plant. Also, each member received a division of an oncidium hybrid orchid plant from outgoing President Glendon Eppler. Incoming President Beverly Garcia presented a commemorative plaque to Glendon Eppler, who was concluding two years as President.
The meeting ended with a “Show & Tell” session during which several Society members presented and discussed one or more of their blooming orchid plants.
The Gruene Orchid Society normally meets the first Tuesday of each month, at the Gulf States LTAC Hospital, located at 1445 Hanz Drive in New Braunfels. Anyone interested in the beauty and culture of orchids is invited to meetings.
For the meeting of Jan. 5, Society members will visit the orchid greenhouse operated by Liz and Don O'Toole. Their business name is “E.D. Huntington Orchids & Tropicals,” and it is located at 14003 Dublin Square in San Antonio.
