Q.When I was a child there were many, many grocery and food stores in San Marcos. Many are now closed. My husband and I were trying to remember some of them. Also — when did HEB come to town? A. The library has a history file for grocery stores in San Marcos. It contains original grocery receipts, photographs, advertisements and newspaper articles about grocery stores from the late 19th century to now.

LBJ Museum to host 20th Annual Ted Breihan Open

The LBJ Museum of San Marcos will be hosting the 20th Annual LBJ Museum of San Marcos Ted Breihan Open Golf Tournament on Friday, April 21 at Kissing Tree Golf Club. The format of the tournament is a shotgun start and all proceeds benefit the museum. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with tee off at 8 a.m. concluding with lunch and raffle.

The Hands of Hope Tea ’N More returns this year on April 22. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with table previews and a silent auction in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, located at 325 West Mc-Carty Lane. The high tea, catered by the Texas Pie Company of Kyle, will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a spring fashion show by Chico’s following after.
