The Penfold Theatre Company launches a new apprenticeship program in partnership with Texas State University, Department of Theatre and Dance. The goal is to provide students with an interest in arts leadership the experience and skills training that will help them establish a career in professional theatre. Island Comfort Food

Winter weather can be relentless and make it challenging to stay warm and dry. After a session of shoveling snow or braving the great outdoors, a meal that can quickly warm the core is fitting — especially if that meal can serve doubleduty by evoking feelings of a warm climate.

When people think of the movie “Tootsie,” they recall an uncomfortable Dustin Hoffman in a spangly red sequin dress. The awards keep coming for Supertunia Mini Vista Petunias

The awards just keep coming. When I last wrote about the Supertunia Mini Vista Indigo, it was in 2020 and it was making its debut. It had already won 24 awards in trials, even though it was just arriving to the public. Now the awards are three dozen and, in fact, the Supertunia Mini Vista series now totals over 160. How can this be for a petunia with the word mini in its name?

Market Milestone

Creators and patrons gather at the Hays County Courthouse lawn in Downtown San Marcos for Art Squared Arts Market in Spring 2020 in San Marcos, Texas.

Market Milestone: Art Squared celebrates 10th anniversary

Art Squared has become a popular activity amongst San Marcans, as it is the largest art market in the area, located in the heart of Downtown San Marcos. From its humble beginnings in 2012 as ‘Art Unhitched,’ Art Squared has become an important part of over 40 artists’ businesses nearly every month. Kathryn Welch, the current Market Director of Art Squared, has been involved since 2015 and has seen firsthand how this art market has transformed from a weekend activity to a San Marcos institution.
