Health reform: GOP has lost touch

By Chris McCauley

It is thrilling to know that the voice of the majority of Americans still matters.

The vote for health care reform is a huge step forward in the the evolution and history of our nation.

The Democrat Party has it right on this issue and the Republicans are very much out of touch with the express will of the people and the socio-political times we are in.

They have confirmed themselves to be the party of "No we can't and No we will not.” They are absolutley heartless and headless at this point. I am extremely disappointed with them.

I am politically conservative, African American and served as a dedicated supporter of the Republican Party throughout the nineties. My absolute disgust with the party began with the failure of Newt Gingrich and his cronies, who failed to keep the promises made to reform the party and nation and become more inclusive and "big tent.”

They were given a golden opportunity to keep the contrct with America and sqandered it. Instead they launched an all out attack against the president of the United States, costing the American Tax Payers millions of dollars and untold levels of national embarrassment.

They have completely lost their way and history will not be kind to them.

Now we have a President who seeks to do the most good for the greatest number of people in our country and all the Republicans can come up with are treasonous, meaningless piffle about issues that no one is even concerned about.

They would rather watch the nation suffer, than assist the president of the United States right wrongs and find solutions to pressing national and global problems. No one is ignorant to their behavior and it is simply reprehensible and shameful to see.

My Republican friends have a hard time looking me in the eye these days.

Although I don't find find a lot of political philosophical identity with much of the Democrat party, I do recognize right and good when it appears.

We have a president with a cause and a mission to re-establish this nation as a beacon of hope and example of opportunity and success, for human rights and freedom.

Why not let us all support him. We need to put race hatred and fear behind us and move forward together as a nation. Stop the political infighting and work together to transform our nation and be the best country we can be. Do the best we can for each other rather than just looking after our own self interests.

How much individual wealth is enough, without any thought of giving to others right here in our country, who may not even have the basic needs in life. We are the greatest country on earth, yet we sometimes behave collectively as if we have no soul.

To not pass the health care reform legislation would be a stain on our moral character. We have an opportunity to show each other and the world the true meaning of American citizenship. That we care for the wellbeing of all our citizens.
