Downtown towing policies are unfair and unappreciated

Editor,

The other night I parked my car in the Nelson Center parking lot around 6:55 p.m. by 7:15 my car was towed by Saucedo's Towing.

I was told by another towing company that someone is under contract by the owner to stake out the parking lot and call in the tow truck.

I had to pay $118.30 to retrieve my car from their “impound lot.” Basically a dirt lot with a shaky chain link fence with a pad lock,  and they charged me $75 for the towing, $20 for “impound,” and another $20 for “storage.” Isn't impounding the same as storing? I felt like – and don't like –  being a victim of their "business" practices. Besides, my thinking is 20 minutes, honestly.

Besides, how would they know if I would not be returning shortly and downtown San Marcos is notorious for its lack of parking, especially around Nelson Center.

As a native San Marcan, I'm appalled by business owners, namely business center owners, making a buck after business hours. I was careful that I didn't park close to any businesses that were open.

I understand the importance for a business to have parking access to their stores. I will be filing a complaint with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
