Community help with libary book sale appreciated

Editor,

This year’s Friends of the Library booksale was complicated by the temporary loss of access to the City Park Rec Hall caused by the fire earlier this year.   The generous members of VFW Post 3413 came to our rescue by agreeing to host our sale. Post Commander David Adams and VFW Event Coordinator Becky Sosa worked hard to help make our sale successful.

We also want to thank Rene Ruiz of Hart Properties for the use of his moving van.  Ray Castillo recruited Hays County C.S.R. workers to help move the boxes of books to and from the library and VFW hall.  National Honor Society students from the San Marcos Academy and the San Marcos High School also helped pack, unpack and sort many thousand books for the sale.

This year’s president of the Friends, Loretta Alacala, recruited and organized dozens of volunteers to work on tasks from sorting books before the sale to manning the cash register.   We appreciate the many volunteers who help with every sale, as well as the first-time volunteers we got a chance to meet.

Special thanks goes to the staff of the Daily Record who work hard to make it easy for people to find out about our book sales and the many other special events held in our wonderful community.

And to those who supported the library by buying books—thank you for making it a very successful sale.  We took in $3,500 which will be used for the purchase of books and equipment for the San Marcos Public Library.
