Entertainment offered on campus is really top notch

Editor,

For San Marcos residents wanting to spend an enjoyable evening being entertained, the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Texas State University is a great place to look.

On Nov. 13, my wife and I took in “Bat Boy: The Musical” performed by the Theatre and Dance Department of the university.

The performance, directed by Kaitlin Hopkins, a veteran Broadway and screen performer and new Head of Musical Theatre at Texas State, was top-notch throughout. The singing, acting, and dancing abilities of the students playing the various roles in the musical were amazing, evidencing much talent and many hours of hard work in rehearsals. The sets were wonderful as was the live music played during the performance. The entire production was Broadway-esque in every respect.

On Nov. 15, we attended a concert of the Texas State University Orchestra, masterfully conducted by Professor Howard Hudiburg.

Popular works of Liszt and Mussorgsky were marvelously performed by the orchestra. The quality of the music was outstanding, on a par with professional orchestral concerts we've attended, and far beyond what we expected of a college-level orchestra.

We never cease to be amazed at the outstanding quality of the productions we attend at the university.

Congratulations to each and every performer, musician, faculty member, and administrator responsible for such wonderful entertainment.
