Rapist sentenced

Adjudication rules broken; man gets 30-year sentence

From staff reports

San Marcos A San Marcos man who had received deferred adjudication in a sexual assault case was back in court this week and will now be headed to prison.

Richard De La Cruz, 55, was sentenced to 30 years behind bars on the aggravated sexual assault charge Thursday by District Judge Charles Ramsay.

Assistant District Attorney Fred Weber said De La Cruz had been placed on deferred adjudication last March for the 2000 rape of a 10-year-old.

He was brought back to court because he failed to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

He will not be eligible for parole until 2024.
