Stabbing investigated

From staff reports

San Marcos A 22-year-old man was taken to Austin's University Medical Center at Brackenridge early Sunday morning for treatment of a stab wound.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made nor weapon recovered in a case police said stemmed from a confrontation between two groups where words were exchanged and a racial slur alleged.

It happened at the Shalamar Apartments at approximately 1:18 a.m.

SMPD Sgt. Fred Wisener police were at the nearby Courtyard apartments responding to a noise complaint when they were approached by a group of African Americans, one with a bloody nose.

Wisener said the group told officers they'd been walking through Shalamar when someone yelled at them to be quiet, and that the individual, who was white, used a racial slur. That prompted the group to "stop and look back" after which they were charged by white individuals, one of whom had hit the injured man in the face and jaw.

But the other side had a different story, Wisener said, which omitted the racial slur and said a member of the group was responsible for the stabbing.

"The group was all interviewed and searched," Wisener said. "No bloody knife was found, and nobody could point out, the victim couldn't point out who it was" that had the weapon.

"There was a lot of confusion. Not everybody was being forthcoming," Wisener said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
