Hays County Commissioners lifted the burn ban on Monday, but not without conditions.
Residents planning any outdoor burning are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 393-7896 prior to burning, to use caution, monitor all fires and have a water source readily available.
Under the county’s rules for outdoor burning, all fires “must be constructed downwind of or at least 300 feet from any structure,” and “shall not begin when the wind speed is greater than 15 mph.”
The rules say burning is legal from no earlier than one hour after sunrise to not later than one hour before sunset.
Separate from burn bans are Red Flag Warnings issued by the National Weather Service when strong winds an low humidities create “critical fire weather.”
Caldwell County’s burn ban is still intact.
To report a fire, call 911.
