It’s something you hear of from time to time, an accidental shooting where only one of the parties is human.
But this time it happened in Caldwell County off Hwy. 20 near the community of Dale: A man was shot by his dog.
According to Sgt. Paul Cowan of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, the 21-year-old man turned up in the emergency room of the Seton Hospital in Luling on March 26 with a gunshot wound.
As is protocol, the hospital filed a report, albeit a short one.
“According to this,” Cowan said, reading from the brief report, “he was checking his hog traps and had his dog in the truck. The dog got excited when he saw a bunch of animals” outside.
The dog knocked over the .22 rifle that was also in the pickup’s cab and it discharged, striking the man in his shoulder.
Cowan said it was a minor wound that essentially grazed the man’s shoulder.
