Update: Name of man shot by dog released

From staff reports

Authorities have released the identity of a Caldwell County man whose dog activated the trigger of his rifle last week.

Daniel Crider, of Lockhart, had been checking his hog traps near Dale and returned to his truck to leave. Crider’s small dog was in the truck and had gotten excited when it saw a bunch of other small animals in the area and had knocked over Crider’s .22 caliber rifle while jumping around the cab. Crider stated he reached toward the rifle to pick it up when the dog jumped down on the rifle, causing it to discharge. The bullet grazed him, causing a small flesh wound, in the left shoulder and went out the window of the truck. Crider stated he called his girlfriend’s brother to drive him to the hospital in Luling.

Sgt. Paul Cowan of the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling at 10:29 p.m. March 26 regarding a gunshot wound.

Crider was released from the hospital at 10:43pm.

Deputies completed their investigation and determined that no crime had been committed.
