Car burglaries in Hays 'burbs

From staff reports

Some in Hays County are being most un-neighborly.

So says Sheriff’s spokeswoman Pam Robinson in the wake of a rash of car burglaries in suburban neighborhoods — places where most residents feel so comfortable they even invite the crimes by leaving their cars unlocked or behind open garage doors.

“Lock your cars and remove valuables — even the smallest amount of change,” she said. “There’s no reason to leave your purse or wallet in your vehicle. It invites burglars and identity thieves that can destroy your credit.”

Several areas have been hit in recent days and weeks, she said, including Dove Hollow, Mountain City and Meadow Woods.

Deputies have stepped up patrols in response to the burglaries but can’t be everywhere, Robinson said.

“Talk to your family, friends and neighbors,” she said, adding that any area could be targeted at any time. “Crooks move around.”

Call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
