A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a bomb threat at a Hays CISD school on Monday.
Rafael Zamora was taken into custody near the school at 11:45 a.m., around an hour and 15 minutes after someone called Chapa Middle School and said a bomb was to go off in 30 minutes.
School authorities and a School Resource Officer ordered an evacuation and once students were safely out, conducted a search, said Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Leroy Opiela. Nothing of a suspicious nature was located, and students were allowed to return to class.
Opiela said at the same time the school was being searched, an investigation began into the identity of the caller.
Zamora was charged with making a false report, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
He remains in jail today.
