Fireworks purchase with bogus $100 sparks arrests

Two people have now been charged with forgery in the wake of a woman buying fireworks with a counterfeit $100 bill last week in Buda.

Tanya Disirea Bostick, 25, was arrested late Friday after an investigation by the Hays County Sheriff's Office.

She was charged at that time with state jail felony forgery, sheriff's officials said. However, those charges have been upgraded to a third degree felony and Bostick remains in Hays County Jail under a bond of $10,000.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Leroy Opiela said during the investigation, detectives served a search warrant on Bostick's home in the Plum Creek RV Park in Kyle and while doing so, found 27-year-old Stephen Barham in possession of marijuana.

He was arrested for that offense but has since been also charged with forgery.

Barham also remains jailed under a bond of $2,500 on the Class B Misdemeanor marijuana charge and $10,000 on the forgery charge.

Opiela said additional counterfeit bills were found in Bostick's residence, along with some property that is suspected to have been stolen.

The Hays County SWAT team and the US Secret Service assisted in executing the search warrant.
