The deadline to nominate a community for the Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) First Lady’s Texas Treasures Award is Aug. 31.
First Lady Anita Perry, acting as honorary chair in partnership with the THC, is highlighting communities that show a high level of creativity and ingenuity in utilizing THC tools and programs to preserve their historic and cultural resources.
Each year, up to five Texas communities will be presented with an award based on received nominations.
The program recognizes historic preservation initiatives and projects that combine several resources offered by the THC and other preservation organizations or state agencies, helping to tell the real story of Texas by showcasing those communities that value and protect their heritage.
Applications are available now at www.thc.state.tx.us. Follow in the footsteps of inaugural winners Castroville, Georgetown and Mount Vernon in video clips also on the THC web site.
For more information, contact the THC’s April Garner at april.garner@thc.state.tx.us or (512) 463-2630.
