Woman beaten, charges against assailant pending

From staff reports

Police say assault charges are pending against a 28-year-old local man who beat his former common law wife so severely she was taken to the hospital.

San Marcos Police Sergeant Fred Wisener said the woman, also 28, has no memory of the attack that left her lip swollen and cut.

Wisener said the couple had lived together for 14 years and had three children. The man moved out earlier this year, then back in, then out again. Late on Wednesday, the woman and others including her new boyfriend were standing around near the apartment when the suspect showed up.

“She walks around to talk to him and the next thing she remembers she’s waking up in the ambulance,” Wisener said, adding that no one saw the attack.

A short time later, the new boyfriend got a call from his roommate at another apartment complex that the suspect was trying to set fire to their front door. Fire Marshal Ken Bell is investigating the arson.

Wisener said the suspect wasn’t caught, but police do know who he is.
