San Marcos' sales tax rebates from the state reversed a month's long slide, an apparent indication of increased consumer spending in May.
According to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, allocations are up statewide, reflecting steady growth in Texas despite the slowing national economy.
According to the new figures, San Marcos was allocated $1,341,194.41 in July, an increase of 1.62 percent over last year. An even larger increase. 4.97 percent, was seen in year-to-date allocations, which total $10,637,566.22.
Statewide, Combs said, July payments to Texas cities were up 2.6 percent and year-to date payments up five percent.
Here's how other Hays County entities fared:
• Buda: July payment $233,774.58, down 19.77 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Buda has received $1,893,025.34, down 9.70 percent from 2007.
• Dripping Springs: July payment $66,117.28, up 45.54 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Dripping Springs has received $402,164.90, up 27.03 percent from 2007.
• Hays City: July payment $1,380.11, up 37.82 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Hays City has received $9,406.94, up 51.78 percent from 2007.
• Kyle: July payment $170,570.19, up 16.61 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Kyle has received $1,259,795.73, up 25.38 percent from 2007.
• Mountain City: July payment $342.41, up 60.85 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Mountain City has received $2,592.72, up 174.84 percent from 2007.
• Niederwald: July payment $1,843.28, up 3.70 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Niederwald has received $12,563.37, up 12.56 percent from 2007.
• Uhland: July payment $4,294.70, up 262.74 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Uhland has received $18,990.08; down 1.69 percent from 2007.
• Wimberley: July payment $40,489,26, down .87 percent from last year; so far in 2008, Wimberley has received $319,093.51, up 8.66 percent from 2007.
• Woodcreek: July payment $2,846.58; down 23.42 percent from last year; so far in 2008 Woodcreek has received $25,120.92, down 18.71 percent from 2007.
Those all add up to a monthly rebate total of $1,862.852.80, up .61 percent from last July. In year-to-date payments, Hays entities have received $14,580,319.73, up 4.79 percent from 2007.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have a tax rate of 1.5 percent. Dripping Springs taxes at a rate of 1.25 percent. Hays City, Mountain City, Uhland, Wimberley and Woodcreek have a 1 percent tax rate.
