Sisterly lunch not the usual family affair

From staff reports

A lunch between two San Marcos siblings wasn’t exactly warm and fuzzy, San Marcos police said this week.

A 58-year-old woman said she was picked up for lunch from her job her by her sister at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday. They ate lunch at the Whataburger on Hwy 123 and the driver, 53, reportedly said to her sister, “Hurry up and eat. You never know when it’s going to be your last meal.”

The two sisters got back in to the vehicle after lunch and headed toward Martindale on Hwy 80, San Marcos police Sgt. Fred Wisener said. The victim said she begged her sister to take her back to work, but her sister yelled and cursed at her. The victim also reported that her sister had a large knife in the center console.

Near Martindale, the driver looked around and said, “This is a good spot,” but the two did not stop. Rather, they made a U-turn and headed north on IH-35, the police report said.

The driver reportedly drove recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds, and stopped at the entrance gate to Lake Belton in Belton, Wisener said.

The victim jumped from the vehicle and ran toward the guard shack, where she said she begged strangers to call police. Her sister reportedly fled from the scene.

The victim said her sister knew she couldn’t swim and believed that she was going to drown her. Police said the driver had previous mental health problems.

Temple police responded to the Lake Belton park and took a report. The victim was picked up by her brother and brought back to San Marcos. The driver was not detained.
