Church burglars steal donations

From staff reports

San Marcos Someone visited a San Marcos church this week for a most ungodly mission.

Police said a 55-gallon barrel that was about half full of donations was stolen from the Iglesia de Cristo Roca Eterna on Hwy. 123 sometime between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to SMPD Sergeant Fred Wisener, entry was made through the church’s back door, and it appeared is if someone had used a heavy object to ram the door, destroying its knob and locking mechanism in the process.

Police found the “donation barrel” that had been near the front of the church behind the building and empty.

Police have no leads.

Anyone with any information should call police at 753-2300. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 353-TIPS from the San Marcos calling area or at (800) 324-TIPS toll-free from anywhere.
