Student stabbed in fight

Investigation continues into altercation on Post Road

San Marcos A Texas State University student who was stabbed in the back during a disturbance on Post Road early today is expected to recover.

In fact, police said the student, who was still in Brackenridge Hospital as of press time, was trying to get released in time to take a final exam today.

According to SMPD Sgt. Dave Waugh, the student, whose name and age were not available, was stabbed during a disturbance at 1647 Post Road.

Police responded at approximately 12:20 a.m.

Waugh said several university students were involved in the incident and that police detectives believe “they have interviewed all of the folks involved,” including the person responsible.

No arrests have been made but the case remains under active investigation.

Waugh said friends of the victim took him to Central Texas Medical Center and he was transferred from there to Brackenridge in Austin.

The knife was still in his back when he arrived at the hospital, police said.

Elsewhere around town, police are looking into vehicular break-ins at the Tanger and Prime Outlet malls that occurred primarily during the noon hour on Wednesday.

Waugh said eight vehicles, mainly SUVs and pickup trucks, were entered after someone used a punch to disable the locking mechanism.

The suspect or suspects then grabbed what was available inside.

“Unfortunately once again the glass display cases have come into play,” Waugh said, repeating a familiar police crime-prevention theme of urging the public not to leave anything of value in plain view in their vehicles.

There are as yet no suspects in that case.
