Fund established for injured deputy

From staff reports

An assistance fund has been set up for a Hays County deputy critically injured in a traffic accident on Monday.

Fernando Amaya, who works as a corrections officer in the county jail, was riding his bicycle to work when he was struck by a vehicle on FM 150 east of Kyle around 7 a.m.

According to Sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Leroy Opiela, Amaya is in critical condition of the ICU at University Medical Center at Brackenridge in Austin.

The driver of the car, identified as 37-year-old Randy Dabbs of Dale, has not been charged.

Opiela said the fund has been set up at the American National Bank in San Marcos. Those wishing to contribute should specify the “Beatrice Amaya for Fernando Amaya” fund.

The bank can be reached at 392-5588.
