From staff reports

A Hays County Sheriff's Office deputy severely injured when a car hit his bicycle on Monday died today in Austin.

Transportation Deputy Fernando Amaya died in the intensive care unit of University Hospital at Brackenridge at 12:30 p.m.

Amaya, 44, was riding his bicycle on FM 150 east of Kyle when he was struck by a vehicle around 7 a.m. He had received massive head injuries, said Sheriff's spokesman Leroy Opiela.
