The weekend’s forecast is fair. As in Hays County Fair.
The three-day event kicks off tonight at the Hays County Civic Center, which over the course of the fair will host barbecue and chili cook-offs, live music, dance, children’s activities, food and beer vendors, BMX Freestyle Competition and live bull riding.
Sponsors LULAC 4876 will use the proceeds to fund scholarships for high school students and other community projects.
Schedule:
• Thursday, Oct. 9: Things get underway at 6:30 p.m. with the Texas Music Kick-Off Party/College Night featuring Train Wreck, Cody Larson and Texas FX. Admission is free and beer wristbands are $15 with valid ID.
• Friday, Oct. 10: The Hill Country Cook-Off begins at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. door open for performances by Super Bailongo, Aniceto Molina “El Tigre Sabanero,” Mision Norteno and Nubes Del Norte. Pre-sale admission tickets are available for $30 at Guadalupe Meat Market and Full Moon Saloon in Redwood and La Grande Discoteca in San Marcos, JP’s Quick Stop and Bakery in Seguin, TU Musica Discoteca in Kyle and Austin and at Novedades Colombo in Austin. Tickets are $40 the day of the concert.
• Saturday, Oct. 11: Hill Country Cook-off begins at 8 a.m.; Run through the Hills Poker Run registration starts at 9 a.m. with the first bike leaving at 10 a.m. and the last bike in at 4 p.m. (There is a $20 registration fee.) BMX Competition starts at 11 a.m. with free admission. Washer Toss registration starts at noon with a $25 per team registration fee. Prize money and trophies will go to the top three teams. Mutton busting registration is at 6 p.m. with live bull riding at 6:30 p.m. Emmerson Biggins and Lonnie Key & Texas Connection will perform beginning at 8:30 p.m. and there is a $15 admission to that dance. Children 12 and under are free.
