American Legion Auxiliary seeks needy veterans for holiday assistance

Confidentiality laws and the self sufficient nature of many Americans have made it difficult for San Marcos American Legion Auxiliary Unit 144 to move forward with one of its most rewarding projects – providing Christmas holiday baskets containing food and other basics to two or three local veterans' families each year.
At its meeting Oct. 9, the local auxiliary unit voted to seek basket recipient nominees from the readers of the San Marcos Daily Record.
Each family to receive a holiday basket must include a father, mother or caretaker grandparent who is either a veteran or is currently on active military assignment.
The number of baskets presented will depend upon the number of family members in the selected families and the amount of contributions collected by Unit 144.
Nominations may be e-mailed to San Marcos American Legion Auxiliary Unit 144 President Pat Murdock at pmurdock@centurytel.net or mailed to her at 103 Blanco Street, San Marcos, Texas 78666.
Nominations should include a brief explanation of why the nominated family needs and/or deserves a holiday gift basket, a listing of resident family members by gender and age and the nominees' local address.
The person making the nomination should also provide his or her name and contact information. The nomination deadline is Nov. 1.
