Branding Task Force approved

From staff reports

San Marcos The San Marcos City Council has approved a Branding Task Force that will consist of eight standing members plus one council member “rotating” through meetings.

Appointed to assist consultants KBG Texas and Tate/Hahn/Austin in developing a marketing identity for the city are Mayor Susan Narvaiz; Pam Couch, soon to be former council member who will serve in the capacity of a small business representative, Hays County Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe, Texas State University student liaison Fidencio Leija, Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Joel Williams, citizen/non-profit representative Donna Hill, San Marcos Daily Record publisher Stan Woody and Main Street Manager Kelly Franks.

Their duties, as outline during Monday’s council meeting, will be

• To advise the consultants on community resources and stakeholders for the project

• To provide project oversight and review of progress

• To serve as community liaisons on the branding project

• To communicate with city council and provide recommendations on the project.

The project is being funded with money pulled from the hotel occupancy fund, city spokesperson Melissa Millecam told the council. In October, the council voted to pay the consultants $164,920 to develop a brand to include logos, taglines and other elements.

The task force had originally included seven members. However, Franks was added at the suggestion of council member Gaylord Bose.

The “rotating” council presence came after council member Chris Jones initiated a discussion about council involvement.
