Envision Central Texas (ECT) directors re-elected Jim Walker, AICP, to serve as ECT chairman in 2009.
Walker is the executive director of the Central Texas Sustainability Indicators Project and has served on ECT’s executive committee and board of directors since its inception in 2001.
The Indicators Project covers Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties and tracks more than 40 indicators of the health of the Central Texas economy, environment, and social equity.
Walker has served as a spokesperson for the Mueller Neighborhood Coalition while stewarding the community vision for the 700-acre redevelopment of Austin’s former airport based on new urbanist principles.
He is also on the board of Liveable City and previously, the Austin Neighborhoods Council.
Walker is a graduate of the Community and Regional Planning Program at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners, and is a Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Development at UT-Austin. In 2008, Walker was named as “Austin Under Forty Austinite of the Year,” by the Young Men’s Business League and the Young Women’s Alliance.
Other ECT officers elected for 2009 include Chair-Elect Travis Froehlich, Seton Family of Hospitals; Immediate Past Chair Frederick “Fritz” Steiner, dean of the UT School of Architecture; Secretary John Langmore, Transportation and Land Use Consultant; and, Treasurer Valarie Bristol, retired.
Envision Central Texas serves as a catalyst for change in the region’s growth management strategies so that it can advance Central Texas’ vision for the future. ECT believes that we must improve how we grow in order to sustain our region’s quality of life and competitiveness.
