San Marcos —
Don Moore took over as publisher of the San Marcos Daily Record on Oct. 3.
A native Texan who has been in the newspaper business since the age of 14, Moore graduated from Texas A&M University with Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree. He most recently served as publisher of the weekly Elgin Courier. Prior to that, he spent 16 years as publisher of Cedar Park’s Hill Country News, a newspaper that publishes three times a week.
While in Cedar Park, Moore served on numerous city and school district boards and commissions, and was a mentor in the Leander ISD for several years.
He chaired the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce and holds the record for years served on that board at 11.
Moore sat on the Cedar Park Tourism Advisory Board for seven years and, during his stint as chair, helped bring the Texas Stars professional hockey team to Cedar Park.
“I was proudest of the time spent working with the Leander ISD,” Moore said. “I served as the chairperson of a bond task force that successfully passed a $300 million bond package. The great schools in the Cedar Park and Leander area are what helped those communities grow and prosper beyond all expectations and I like to think the partnership between the school district and my newspaper were a big part of the success of the district and the community.”
Moore said he looks forward “to becoming an active partner with our schools and our local governments to help build a better community for everyone in San Marcos. It is an exciting time in San Marcos with everything happening at Texas State,” he said.
In particular, he said the Bobcats’ move to the Western Athletic Conference “will bring new exposure and excitement to our city, and I am confident that the Record will also prosper as a result of the university’s and the city’s leadership. San Marcos is a city that I have always thought would be a great place to publish a newspaper, and a great place to live.”
The Record, owned by Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., has served San Marcos and Hays County since 1912. The newspaper office is located at 1910 IH-35.
Moore is the father of two children. Barry Moore, also a graduate of A&M, is youth minister at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston. Eva Moore, a graduate of the University of Texas, is a Pre-K Spanish teacher at All Saints Episcopal School in Austin.
