'Candid' SMCISD forums set
San Marcos — During three public forums this fall, the San Marcos community is invited to join in an opportunity for “candid conversation” about the public school system, district officials said this week.
The forums will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the San Marcos High School cafeteria on the Monday evenings of Oct. 22, Oct. 29, and Nov. 5.
“The purpose of the meetings will be to help identify any problems and help create solutions,” said SMCISD Superintendent Dr. Patty Shafer. “We want to improve educational opportunities and experiences for our students while also helping to stimulate the economic development of our community.”
According to Shafer, forum participants will be divided into small groups with assigned moderators. After the group discussions, ideas will be recorded and shared with both the local school district and with regional groups in the greater Austin area.
Early registration is encouraged, as seating is limited to the first 150 people. To pre-register, or address questions, please call 393-6744 or email e3alliance@gmail.com.
Childcare will be provided for children no longer in diapers. Pizza will be provided; RSVP to the numbers above if you intend to eat.
The discussions are being facilitated by the following entities: Austin Voices for Education & Youth, the E3 Alliance, Texas Forums, Closing the Education Gaps in Central Texas and the United Way of Hays County.
