From staff reports
San Marcos — Families with children enrolled in the Texas State University Child Development Center had to make other arrangements after the facility was closed at noon on Tuesday.
Clinical Assistant Professor June Blades said 13 of 18 total staff members are suffering from flu-like symptoms, though only one has been diagnosed with the flu.
She said some of the pre-schoolers who attend the center have also gotten sick, as have student workers.
“It’s just a bug going around,” Blades said. “We really don’t know what it is..” She said some have had bronchitis-like symptoms, while others complained of upper respiratory problems.
Though flu is not a reportable condition, Hays County Personal Health Director Nick Icossipentarhos said the center made a “courtesy call” to his agency about the closure.
The center plans to reopen on Thursday. Blades said 79 children are currently enrolled in the center.
