Think pink — and fight cancer

For the 15th year, Tanger Outlet Centers nationwide are asking their shoppers to think pink in the battle against breast cancer. In San Marcos, Tanger shoppers can join in the campaign to save lives by purchasing a 25 percent Pink Card through Oct. 19. For a $1 donation each, the card means a 25 percent discount at participating outlet stores at Tanger centers across the country. The Pink Cards will be available at the Tanger Customer Service Center and online at tangeroutlet.com.

Proceeds from sale of the Pink Cards will stay in the community by benefitting Central Texas Medical Center’s new Lymphedema therapy program, a service that helps prevent swelling due to the build up of a protein-rich fluid in the tissues the skin. CTMC is the only provider in Hays County to offer the service.

“Working closely with our retail partners, we will continue the battle to put an end to the terrible disease,” stated Stanley K. Tanger, chairman and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. “We remain committed to the fight. It is our goal to fund the research necessary to put an end to breast cancer in our lifetime,” he added.

This year Tanger has also expanded its fund-raising efforts to also include lung, colon and prostate cancer.  Each time a Tanger shopper purchases the Tanger “Cure Card,” a specially designed gift card, Tanger will donate 10 percent of the purchase price to fight these cancers. The Tanger Cure Card will be available through Dec. 31, and can be purchased at Shopper Services and online at tangeroutlet.com.

Tanger has a history of making a difference in the communities it serves across the country.  Since 1994, Tanger Outlet Centers has contributed in excess of $5.1 million. Money raised by Tanger’s 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in San Marcos is being donated through the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund.
