San Marcos — Traffic along IH-35 South had a major tie-up around noon on Monday after a rented tractor/trencher being towed came loose and created a jam that led to a second accident.
According to SMPD Corporal Scott Johnson, the towing accident occurred just south of Hwy. 123 and was being cleared when a college student's Geo Tracker slammed into the back of a stopped tractor/trailer.
"She was a very lucky young lady not to have been injured at all," Johnson said, adding that her vehicle was extensively damaged.
The driver of the 18-wheeler she hit "looked at his truck and kept going," he said.
