San Marcos — A San Marcos pawn shop was robbed at gunpoint Monday, and police say the bandits likely got away quickly on the Interstate.
According to SMPD Sgt. Fred Wisener, two men, one armed with a gun, walked into National Pawn on the IH-35 West Access Road shortly after noon. "They demanded money, and before they left they set a file on fire," he said.
The fire was quickly extinguished but a three or four minute delay between the time the robbery occurred and the 911 call was placed probably contributed to the getaway.
"The 'on ramp' is right there to IH-35 South," he said. "We notified New Braunfels PD right away, but no luck."
Descriptions were sketchy. Wisener said the two suspects were both white males, 5'10" to 5'11" and both around 175 lbs. One had dark collar length hair. They escaped in a light blue older model car, "maybe late 80s or early 90s," Wisener said.
He added that the case seems unique, as there have been no similar reports of pawn shop robberies in the area.
