San Marcos — A Hays County man convicted last month of repeatedly sexually abusing two young girls has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars.
At the very minimum, Gregory Anthony Rodriguez will have to serve 15 years before “even thinking” about applying for parole, said Assistant District Attorney Cathy Compton.
Rodriguez, 31, was sentenced on Monday by District Judge Jack Robison. He was convicted Nov. 20 by a six-man, six-woman jury on 13 counts that included aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Compton said Robison, in his sentencing, grouped the counts for each victim to run concurrently but then “stacked” the sentences related to each of the two girls.
Both of the victims, who were the daughters of Rodriguez’ former girlfriend, testified at his trial. They were nine and 15 years old when the abuse began.
Rodriguez has been indicted on similar charges in Caldwell County, where the household lived for a time. His trial date there has not yet been set.
