By Linda Keese

Seven Central Texas residents were recently sworm in as new Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). They willl advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays Counties.

Sworn in March 13 by Judge Karin Bonicoro were Cindy Murrill of Comal County, Lynette Barker of Hays County, Bob Caldwell of Hays County, Shannon Holt of Comal County, Judge Karin Bonicoro, Michele Hartman of Hays County, Krystal Hurtado of Guadalupe County, Judy Satterfield of Caldwell County and Candace Soya of Hays County.

They will soon be assigned to children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect and are now placed in the court system. As advocates, the volunteers will get to know everyone in the children’s lives and speak up for them in court, advocating for their best interest. Another training is starting soon.

If you would like to make a difference in the life of a child, please contact Training Coordinator Debbie Haynes at (512) 392-3578 or visit www.casacentex.org.
