San Marcos — Most everyone knows there are some good bargains to be found at a Goodwill store.
Some San Marcos residents may soon find their Goodwill headquarters is also willing to help them find a good job.
Goodwill Industries of Central Texas will be celebrating the grand opening of the first Job Help Center here on Thursday.
With the current economy causing a rise in job seekers utilizing Goodwill's job training and support services, the San Marcos center is opening at a critical time to help disadvantaged Central Texans find, obtain and retain meaningful employment, Goodwill officials said this week.
The community is invited to an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at 1005 Highway 80.
“The opening of this Goodwill Job Help Center will allow us to assist more Central Texans with barriers locate jobs in the community at a time when our services are needed most,” Goodwill Industries of Central Texas President and CEO Gerald Davis said.
“With this new facility, we hope to provide an accessible place for people to receive job services in San Marcos and the surrounding community,” he said.
One of 5 Job Help Centers in Central Texas, this new center, located within the town’s only Goodwill retail store, will offer a number of employment resources to area residents in addition to a welcoming atmosphere.
For those searching for a job, the center offers computers, telephones as well as job postings. Goodwill placement specialists are available to assess each job seeker’s needs to provide customized assistance.
Walk-ins are accepted four days a week, but appointments are recommended.
Goodwill’s job services are up by more than 50 percent compared to this time last year. Goodwill assists Central Texans gain self-sufficiency and independence by providing job services, application and interview training, job search skills, resume building as well as case management and basic needs assistance to people with barriers to employment.
Goodwill Industries of Central Texas is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the mission of providing job related services for people with barriers to employment.
