Twenty-two students from the piano studios of Dr. Karen Munson and Mrs. Dianne Osborne performed in the National Guild of Piano Teachers auditions May 7-8 on the campus of San Marcos Academy.
Students auditioned for membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians in categories such as classical programs, jazz programs, ensembles and duets.
Solo membership levels range from Local (2-3 pieces performed) and District (4-6 pieces performed) to State (7-9 pieces), National (10-14 pieces) and International (15-20 pieces).
Most individual performers had to memorize the pieces they played.
Those taking part in the auditions at the national level were Tina Chen and Yuan Li. Both of these San Marcos Academy students additionally performed in the duet category and also received the High School Diploma of Social Music.
Others performing the duet program were Zenan Chen, Helen Ding, SeungPyo Hong, Ting Wei Hsu, Serena Huang, Won Jae Jeong, Leah Kim, Young Soo Kwon, Peter Park and Vincent Wei.
Auditioning at the state level of membership was Andrei Apostol.
Those performing district-level programs were Sarah Cheng, SeungPyo Hong, Serena Huang, Won Jae Jeong, Young Soo Kwon, Peter Park, Zoe Schwartz, Fallon Sheffield, Emily Sivilay and Vincent Wei.
At the local membership level, those auditioning were Brigid Baughman, Zenan Chen, Cristen Cost, Helen Ding, Tin-Wei Hsu, Cory Sivilay and Carly Villarreal.
Those performing in the ensemble category were Zenan Chen, Helen Ding, SeungPyo Hong, Ting-Wei Hsu, Serena Huang, Won Jae Jeong, Leah Kim, Young Soo Kwon, Peter Park and Vincent Wei.
