San Marcos — Hays County will receive $69,636 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs. The funds will be given to social service agencies to expand food and shelter programs in high-need areas in Hays County. A local board of community and government organizations’ representatives will determine how the Hays County funds are distributed.
Local agencies chosen to receive funds must meet the following guidelines:
• Be private voluntary non-profits or units of government
• Have an accounting system
• Practice nondiscrimination
• Have shown the capability to deliver emergency food and /or shelter programs
• If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board
Qualifying agencies are urged to apply. The board has previously granted funds to Dripping Springs Helping Hands, Hays County Area Food Bank, The Society of St. Stephens, Southside Community Center, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and the Greater San Marcos Youth Council.
